Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore volume, soften lines, and enhance facial contours. Over time, the skin naturally loses collagen, elastin, and underlying fat. This gradual change leads to thinning skin, deeper folds, hollowed areas, and a loss of youthful definition. Dermal fillers are designed to address these structural changes beneath the surface of the skin rather than simply treating what is visible on top.

Each patient requires an individualized plan, with an end goal of volume restoration that gives you a refreshed appearance and augments your natural beauty. A comprehensive evaluation considers facial symmetry, skin quality, and underlying bone structure. You will never look fake or over-filled.

Dr. Richey is one of a very small group of board-certified dermatologists who have completed fellowships in both Mohs surgery and laser and cosmetic dermatology. With her years of cosmetic expertise, she will help you get your best results possible. This includes choosing the best filler for you and combining dermal filler injections with same-day lasers or skin tightening devices when appropriate.

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to add volume and improve contour. Most modern fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid helps retain moisture, support collagen, and maintain skin hydration. In filler form, it is formulated into a smooth gel that integrates into tissue after injection.

There are also other types of fillers composed of biostimulatory materials. These products work by encouraging the body to produce its own collagen gradually over time. Regardless of the specific formulation, all fillers share the same general purpose: to replace lost volume and improve structural support in targeted areas.

Because the face ages in layers, volume loss does not occur only in the skin. Fat pads shrink and shift, bone structure subtly changes, and collagen decreases. Fillers address these deeper changes by replenishing volume at the appropriate depth, which allows the skin above to appear smoother and more lifted.
